Islamic Jurisprudence It is the science or philosophy of Islamic law. Islamic laws are in two categories; the laws of worship and the laws of activities. The 5 main schools of thought in Islam are Maliki, Shafi’i, Hanafi, Hanbali and Ja’fari. The first 4 are also known as the Sunni schools of thought and the last one is the Shi’a or the Imamaiyya school of thought. These laws are derived from the Qur’an, the Sunnah, the intellect/analogy and consensus.
